They usually create buzz searches for keywords that are not all that competitive – just on the product name etc. So it’s fairly easy to rank and get in the way of a lot of search traffic that you can count on…

Great blog post! Yes, all of the IM voodoo does apply to local businesses. I’ve easily gotten first page Google domination for a series of main keyword phrases for my employer. I use free blogs in a link chain, each linking to the next and the target site. So, in a diagram, it looks like a wagon wheel. Takes a little time but pulls in business. People are searching on the Internet now for local goods and services. I think this trend will certainly continue.
